Textbook Development Support Writer
Motivated, organized and experienced writer needed to turn Powerpoint slides into MS Word documents, edit and proofread technical material. The candidate will facilitate development of flowing text that translates professors course notes into chapters for adaptation as a textbook. Familiarity with software to support reference development, appropriate citation and index creation.
Responsibilities:
Converting Powerpoint slides into Word document
Create grammatically correct text that flows
Internet searches to clarify current sources and identify additional reference sources that support information in professors’ Powerpoint notes
Experience in inserting figures, tables an graphics (all material developed by professor) into the Word document
Editing of material when complete
Development of contents support material such as
Table of contents (publisher will finalize but draft is necessary)
Reference list (publisher will finalize but draft is necessary)
Draft Index (publisher will finalize but draft is necessary)
Appendices (publisher will finalize but draft is necessary)
Proofing and editing of conference abstracts
Proofing and editing of conference papers
Correct punctuation and grammar in publications and presentations prior to publication
Proofread content at multiple stages (prior to sending to professor, after professor makes modifications and prior to sending final version to publisher)
Correspond with graphic artists on occasion for material that must be input into system
Correspond with equipment manufacturers who’s products will be referenced and showcased in the textbook
Requirements:
Exceptional skills in Powerpoint and MS Word
Knowledge of automatic citation development software
Excellent internet searching skills
2+ years’ experience as a writer or proofreader for a publication, website or marketing/advertising agency;
Exceptional grammar skills, with working knowledge of AP style
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively and accurately against a fast-paced deadline
Top-notch organization and follow-through skills
Independent thinker and problem-solver, with strong ability to manage projects and time
Receptive of feedback from supervisor and quick to apply changes
Ability to travel to meet weekly with professor
Availability during the day for conference calls
Preferred: Graduate student, Senior or Junior in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
